What Day Is It?
Today is Hug A Drummer Day.
And also World Mental Health Day.
It’s a great day to think about forgiveness.
I have a friend who has been wronged, and who has forgiven.
She is at peace.
It’s amazing – I don’t know how she does it.
I come from a long line of estrangements.
It’s called “going no contact.”
The problem with going no contact is that there is often collateral damage.
I’ve tried to discuss forgiveness with some of my grudge-holding peeps.
“That’s NOT how it WORKS!” is always the outraged, foot-stomping response.
So, yeah, the grudges, the estrangements, and the collateral damage continue.
Can you forgive in the midst of an estrangment?
Can you forgive someone who isn’t speaking to you?
If the other person doesn’t accept the forgiveness, does it still count?
It’s also Hug A Drummer Day.
After all of this mental health stuff, I’m going to need that hug.
