I Love Glitter! But Only The Post-Rainstorm Kind

I Love Glitter

I Love Glitter!

It rained two inches the other day.

My apologies to my California friends.

I know that makes y’all jealous.

I took a walk through the park after the storm.

There were still the remnants of dark, angry clouds in the sky.

The air was chilly.

The breeze was even chillier.

All of a sudden, the sun peaked out of the gloom.

The soggy, drenched, waterlogged world glittered in the brilliant sunshine.

It was a spectacular sight.

For just a moment.

Before the sun disappeared behind the clouds again.

I love glitter.

But only the post-rainstorm kind.

I despise the art-supply stuff.

That kind of glitter is the devil’s instrument.

It’s the herpes of the arts-and-crafts world.

Once you’ve been exposed, you’re a carrier forever…

But I digress.

It was a spectacular, post-rainstorm afternoon.

The only kind of glitter I like.

Fall Housecleaning

Fall Housecleaning

As if we weren’t quarantining hard enough, we are now in the midst of a major rainstorm.

We’re stuck at home.

Still.

It’s as good a time as any to start the fall housecleaning.

The Grown Sons are shocked.

They have been living on their own for awhile.

Apparently they have forgotten how to live in a house.

They want to know why.

Why in the world am I wiping down the floorboards?

Why am I washing the window blinds?

Why am I dusting all of the ceiling fans?

And why, why, why do they have to help?

“Because,” I assured them, “We have standards.”

I swear, these boys were not raised in a barn.

Although the evidence would suggest otherwise.
