Valuable Life Lessons From The Dog

Life Lessons From The Dog

Life lessons are everywhere, if only you can find them.

I never get sick.

Well, actually, I do get sick occasionally.

But there’s not much that a hot shower and a good night’s sleep can’t cure.

However, I’ve been hit with a cold this week.

A bad one.

It’s settled in my chest, and I’ve had a terrible cough.

I haven’t been this sick in years.

The cute thing about it (and yes, there IS a cute thing about it) is that Blue Dawg is very worried.

Every time I have a coughing fit, she rushes over and fusses around me until I stop.

She is showing me much more concern than my human family who state, every time that I cough, that I sound terrible.

They’re not wrong.

But they’re not helpful.

Although, now that I think about it, Blue might actually be saying the same thing.

In her own doggy way.

Maybe she’s not being helpful either.

But she’s cute, so there’s that.

My family could learn some valuable life lessons from the dog.

If you can’t be helpful, at least be cute.

It’s A Dog-Eat-Dog World Here In The Suburbs

Dog eat dog

Dog Eat Dog

Blue has a very sensitive stomach.

Her nickname is the Pukolator.

Or Dog-Eat-Dog.

And Then Dog-Puke-Dog.

Don’t worry, she’s been checked out by the vet.

She’s perfectly healthy.

She just has a sensitive stomach.

The other day she threw up in the yard.

For once she avoided puking on a rug.

Good girl.

I decided to let it dry out overnight to make for easier cleanup.

When I went outside to shovel up the mess in the morning, it was gone.

“Did you clean that up?” I asked the Husband.

He did not.

I asked the Grown Sons the same thing.

Silly question.

Of course they didn’t clean it up.

Which means only one thing.

Some local woodland creatures feasted on a dog-vomit dinner last night.

Either that, or they’re sleeping in a dog-vomit-lined nest.

Ewww.

Elton John made the Circle of Life seem so sweet in The Lion King.

This episode proved that it’s not sweet at all.

It’s disgusting.

But, as they say, “Recycling turns things into other things, which is magic.”

I don’t know if ‘magic’ is the right word for the gross dog-eat-dog thing that just happened here.

But hey, we recycled, so there’s that.

This particular Circle of Life situation is absolutely not worthy of an Elton John tune.

But maybe Weird Al could write us a song.

That would do.

Happy National Dog Day To The Best Dog Ever!

Happy National Dog Day

National Dog Day

Happy National Dog Day!

It’s a perfect day to celebrate Blue.

She is the happiest dog ever.

It doesn’t matter what’s happening – she’s happy.

Dinner?

Happy.

Belly rub?

Happy.

Car ride?

Happy.

Walk?

Happy.

Fetch?

Happy.

Sprinklers?

Happy.

She is the best dog ever.

Except, of course, for Wrigley.

She was the best dog ever.

As was Schatzi.

And Dave.

They were all the best dogs ever.

Which makes no sense.

Unless you’ve had dogs.

IYKYK.

Happy National Dog Day!

What Is The Word For Those Plastic Ties?

Those Plastic Ties

I’m going to lose sleep over those plastic ties.

I bought some socks today.

They were on sale at the grocery store.

Blue is a sock thief so I need to keep replenishing my supply.

When I got home and opened up the package, I was shocked.

There were a zillion plastic ties, randomly inserted between different socks.

Curious, I Googled what is the name of those things.

No one seems to know.

Reddit didn’t know, ChatGPT didn’t know, Google didn’t know.

I kept getting “sock hangers” as the answer.

But these aren’t sock hangers.

I’m talking about the plastic string with perpendicular plastic tabs.

You can’t get them off without scissors, otherwise you’ll tear the socks.

But they’re in there so tight that you might cut the socks with the scissors.

This store really, really, really didn’t want anyone to steal those socks.

There were lots and lots and lots of these annoying plastic strings to cut.

Maybe Nordstrom should start using these security thingies to stop the smash and grabs.

I now have a few pairs of matching socks that, with any luck, will last me a couple of days before Blue gets ahold of them.

If anyone knows the name of those plastic security thingies, please let me know.

I’m going to lose sleep wondering about it.
